On the occasion of the opening of the EPC (European Pipeline Center) in Veit/Glan, Austria, an open house will take place on Thursday, 6th and Friday 7th, 2006. The EPC understands itself as pipeline center for research, development and training for water supply and sewage disposal.
Maintenance, upkeep and operating management of drinking water supply and sewage disposal plants gain increasingly in importance. Research, development and training are preconditions for a modern, future-oriented management. Especially the new EU member states focus on improvement and extension of their infrastructure. With the water framework directive and corresponding regulations the EU has provided targets that have to be realised by all members. With the EPC - European Pipeline Center in St. Veit/Glan, these challenges are accepted. Jointly with Austrian institutions, public authorities, companies and operators, experiences will be concentrated; and within the framework of symposia, training courses and research activities, a contribution will be made to the improvement of existing and new drinking water supply and sewage disposal systems. Key aspects of the European Pipeline Center: Inspection and maintenance of drinking water supply plants. Inspection and maintenance of sewers. Exploration and development of new technologies for upkeep. Training of specialised statt with the ÖVGW. Cross-national training in cooperation with universities. On-the-job training for locating of conduits and searching of water leakages at the test tracks mof the EPC. On-the-job training for inspection and cleaning of sewers. On-the-job training in operation of new materials, devices and methods for water supply and sewage management, jointly with the partner companies.
